Our last day in Buenos Aires.
11 december 2019 - Buenos Aires, Argentinië
We arrived in BA from Ushuaia at 7PM on the 7th of December. Nice and warm summer weather and a big difference compared to Patagonia. It was decided that we should have our goodbye dinner with the group this evening since not everybody should join at the tango show on our last night. Marcel had found a good Italian restaurant and Louise was so kind to say thank you to Cees and handed him a book about Patagonia from all of us.
On our last day nothing was planned for the day time. It was a beautiful and warm summer day, over 30 degrees. Per and I had decided to visit the Tigre delta. It is about 35 km outside the city and a very popular place to go to for the local people. We walked to the Retiro station and took the local train to Bme Mitre. From here you can take “El tren de la Costa”. An electric train that goes along the coast with a lot of small stations along the route. The small stations were turned into coffee shops now and since it was Sunday, full with people. On the train were only locals and some had chairs along to sit on at the beach.
Tigre itself is not so interesting. A lot of stalls selling stuff and docks were the boats are lined up to take people on canal cruises or going up and down the river to bring people to their summer/weekend houses. We took a nice boat trip on the canals that lasted about an hour. Nice in this very warm weather. At the houses along the canals they had a funny way of protecting there boats with a lift installation. After a lunch with a salad we returned by train to the city, but we had to switch to a taxi since the train got mechanical problems. At around 5 PM we were back in the hotel. The funny thing was that we spent about 25€ a person and those who did the trip earlier as an excursion paid 75€ a person. Time for some rest and a shower because we ended the day with a tango show.
We were picked up by a small bus which drove us to Palacio del Tango on Florida street not far from Plaza de Mayo. It was a restored theatre /cinema from 1911. Beautiful interior. First they served us a three course dinner and afterwards we had 1/2 hour to try to dance the tango ourselves with help from a beautiful tango couple.
The show started at 10 PM. The orchestra consisted of one woman playing the violin and 6 or 7 men, playing piano, guitars, bass and bandoneon respectively. There were certainly 12 to 14 dancers and a male and a female singer. The show was marvellous. Our tour leader who had seen several shows, was very enthusiastic and said that this one was the best ever. Not only the tango but also acrobatics and ballet. It was worthwhile the 70€. Really value for money and a good end of the whole trip.
