Arrival Windhoek
9 oktober 2025 - Windhoek, Namibië
After a somewhat delayed and tiresome flight we arrived in Windhoek at 8 o’clock in the morning of 9th Oct. It took us 2 hours to get through customs before we could pick up our luggages and meet with our local guide Roelof Kunst. He is a Namibian from German/Dutch origin. Our driver is called Emanuel. We have not seen much of him til now, because the bus is of a special make. It is a truck where the drivers part is separate from the cabin for the passengers. This is to manage the roads in Namibia, which are mostly gravel and quite rough.
The distance to town is about 60km and Windhoek is located at a height of about 1700 mtrs. I saw already some monkeys on the way.
Windhoek has about 500.000 inhabitants, 20% of the whole population of Namibië. It is a mixture of old and modern. They want to delete their German colonial past. The Christus church is one of the oldest buildings, next to a new monument built by North Koreans. We visited the house of Parliament, a building surrounded by a beautiful park and a lot of flowering Jacaranda trees. Then time to see if hotel Thule was ready to welcome us, and indeed they were. It was originally a house from a millionaire transformed into a cosy and beautiful hotel with nice big rooms and a beautiful sight over town. After 2 hours of sleep and a dip in the pool, dinner was served on the terrace.
En prachtig die jacaranda, het is voorjaar natuurlijk, alles in bloei!
Nam nog eens zaden mee voor Frankrijk. Helaas niet gelukt! Zijn vast wel bekenden bij de groep zo te zien!
