We are home for some time now and we have had time to think about all the impressions we encountered and time to read the book from the Dutchman Ton van der Lee, who lived in Namibia, Solitaire for 3 years in the 90’s. He is describing Namibia very well.
It is back to nature, a country 3 times Norway and 20 times The Netherlands. About 3 million people live here. It looks like a flat country, but it is a highland in the middle with mountains ranging up to more than 2500 mtrs, while the highland is between 1000 and 1200 mtrs. Once in a while you see a mountain sticking up. You can drive for quite some time without meeting another vehicle. On the way to Swakopmund we saw one person walking and one cyclist (tourists). Sometimes you see some local men walking with nothing (farms) in sight. You don’t see the farms either. Only on the last 2 days when we came closer to Windhoek on the northern side of the city we saw some farms. The people are very friendly and the population consists of many different tribes.
It is the nature which is overwhelming and the distances. It cannot be explained and is something you have to see for yourself.
Maar het is mooi om de verhalen te lezen en te horen hoe jullie het hebben ervaren
