13/10 Namib Desert Lodge
13 oktober 2025 - Swakopmund, Namibië
We left Namib Desert Lodge at 8 o’clock for Swakopmund, a city at the coast. It is a distance of 350km. The first part is driving through the red desert with sand-dunes, where we see a jackal and an ostrich family and there are always some oryxes to be seen. The landscape is changing when we come to a canyon made by the river Kuiseb. In the far end you can see a mountain area with a height of more than 2000. meters. The river is dry at this time of the year and makes the red dunes stop advancing. The sand goes with the water to the Atlantic Ocean. After this, the nature becomes more stoney. But still 120km to go before we reach the coastline and Walvisbay. We now drove behind the white sand dunes to Swakopmund and to an oasis in an other canyon for a rest and toilet stop. This is the and of the Namib Naukluft Desert.
We arrived at our luxury Strand Hotel at 15.30 and made a walk through this very German city, to the contrary of Walvisbay which is much more industrial and South African. Per and I enjoy a seafoodplatter for dinner and went to bed early.
Har sendt en epost med artikel fra BBC om løvene som har flyttet fra Namib desert til Atl. oceaan kysten pga matmangel i ørkenen.
Dank voor het sturen!
