Auckland
10 november 2017 - Kaeo, Nieuw-Zeeland
On Friday the 10th we were surprisingly early awake and that suited us fine since we had only 1 day in Auckland. We had a small breakfast in a little coffee shop at the harbour and took the hop on hop off bus. They have a red and blue loop. The red is covering the most of the inner city and the blue the areas around. The first interesting stop was a landmark at the Waitamata Harbour were you have a good view of the city skyline. From here we made a walk to the next bus stop. It was a nice walking and cycling path along the sea. We visited the Parnell area with the Holy Trinity Cathedral and the historic cathedral church of St Mary. From here we could walk to the Auckland Museum. A very impressive building. It was a pleasant temperature about 18 degrees, windy but far too nice to go inside. From here you could continue with the blue loop to a.o Mount Eden. This is one of Aucland's most famous natural landmarks. Being the highest volcano in the area it provides a stunning view over the city and the harbour. After several bus stops you continue on the red line towards the city. We had a very centrally located hotel so we did the rest on foot. A.o the Albert Park. An oases in the middle of the city. The 328 metres high Sky Tower we kept for the last and skipped the Sky jump. On Friday evening we found out that the Kiwi's go out partying. Nicely dressed, high heals, party dresses and far too cold for the weather. It was even hard to find a restaurant. With a yetlag in our body were we looking for a more quiet place. We ended up in a Japanese Ramen restaurant and thereafter we went early to bed! Our impression of Auckland, it looked like an American or English city with a combination of really modern skyscrapers and buildings from the 19th century. It reminded us also of Vancouver. One day was enough. Now are we looking forward to the countryside.
Kijk nu al uit naar jullie verslag van de country-side. Heel veel plezier!
Of we de tocht van 2003 opnieuw beleven.
