Hahei

In Hahei we stayed at The Church. The Church was moved from somewhere in the North to Hahei and they placed some cabins around and they made a Restaurant from ' The Curch'.  In most places you have the opportunity to make your own breakfast. So was also the case here. The sun was shining and not a cloud to be seen. So far the best morning we have had and they had reported rain for the whole day! This seems to be typical for N- Zealand, but it suited us fine. First we went to Hot Water Beach. The hotel provided us with towels and spades. You have to be there from 2 hours before and max 2 hours after the low tide. It was full of people when we arrived and lots of fun to see all these adults shuffling like mad to make there own pool. The receptionist had told us how to find the warm spots and it worked. You can't dig very deep but the hot water is coming up right way. There were people cooking a fish in the pool! In some of the pools the water was boiling hot. Luckily you could cool down in the sea. We decided to see some more of the peninsula and drove to Whitianga and continued to Coromandel. All small places with few inhabitants. Hahei has a population of only 270 but in summer 7000. We returned via a gravel road and passed a beautiful waterfall. There we met a female priest who was waiting for a couple to be married. Dressed in a dark blue dress and pantyhose. The groom in jeans and a clean shirt with a corsage and she in a long party dress with a  'silver diadem' on her head. We wished them good luck and continued on our way to Hahei. To morrow we proceed on our way to Rotaroa.
